What are Jake and Suzanne Drinking?
Corte alla Flora, Loggiato – Tuscany 2018
2 oz pour: $7 | 5 oz pour $16 | Bottle: $62
A blend of 50/50 Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc, this wine has notes of dark plum and black cherry fruits, tobacco, spice and a good amount of earth showing distinctly Tuscan. A big and chewy wine, lots of everything in balance with good freshness through the finish.
Sangiovese is of course THE grape of Tuscany. In recent years, producers are making more wines where international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are blended with Sangiovese. The result is generally a wine with more body and more spice notes.
This wine takes us back to a trip we took to Italy some 15 years ago. We stayed in a lovely hotel in Tuscany that was a centuries old farmhouse in the middle of vineyards and olive groves. Each night we dined outside on their patio which overlooked the vineyards. This is exactly the type of wine that we drank with a fabulous pizza or perfectly seasoned steak.
Enjoy!
